China Suppliers Factory of Aviation-Grade 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al (13-8Mo) Precipitation-Hardened Stainless Steel

0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al, known in the US as 13-8Mo, is a high-performance martensitic precipitation-hardening stainless steel developed by Allegheny Ludlum in the 1960s. This advanced material is specifically engineered to meet the stringent requirements of the aerospace industry, providing exceptional strength, toughness, and outstanding corrosion resistance. Produced using a sophisticated dual vacuum melting process (VIM+VAC-ESR/VAR)—which combines vacuum induction melting with vacuum consumable remelting or electroslag remelting—this steel achieves ultra-high purity and structural uniformity. As a leading supplier and manufacturer of 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al in China, our factory guarantees the reliability and performance needed for critical aviation components

    Material Performance Advantages

    High Strength & Toughness

    Unique composition design:

    Cr Ni Mo Al
    12.25%-13.25% 7.5%-8.5% 2.00%-2.50% 0.90%-1.35%

Through heat treatment (H950 and other states), the tensile strength can reach above 1515 MPa and the yield strength can reach above 1415 MPa, while maintaining an elongation of up to 10% and an impact energy of 39 J, which is far superior to ordinary martensitic stainless steel.

The aluminum (Al) element forms a NiAl intermetallic compound phase, which precipitates during the aging process to achieve precipitation strengthening, while the addition of molybdenum (Mo) further improves the strength, toughness and tempering resistance of the material.

    Excellent Corrosion Resistance

The high chromium content provides good matrix corrosion resistance, especially in the aged state, its resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) is significantly better than that of common precipitation hardening stainless steels such as 17-4PH.

It performs excellently in seawater, humid atmosphere and neutral salt spray environments, and is suitable for long-term service in harsh environments.

    Fatigue Performance & Fracture Toughness

Double vacuum smelting greatly reduces the content of oxide inclusions and harmful gases ([O]≤20ppm, [N]≤60ppm), resulting in high fatigue strength and low crack growth rate.

It can still maintain high strength and stability in high temperature (≤430℃) environment and has good creep resistance.

    Good Process Performance

The solid solution state (Condition A) has a low hardness (HRC≈32), making it easy to machine, cold form and weld (TIG/MIG).

Through a simple single low-temperature aging (510 ℃ -595 ℃), with small heat treatment deformation, making it suitable for the manufacture of precision parts.

    Typical Application Areas

    Aerospace

Engine compressor blades, turbine shafts, gears, fasteners and structural parts that meet the strict specifications of FAA, NASA, etc.

    Nuclear Industry and Energy

Nuclear reactor components, steam turbine blades, high-pressure pump shafts, radiation-resistant and stable at high temperatures.

    Military Equipment

Missile structural parts, submarine components, and armored vehicle load-bearing parts, taking into account both lightweight and protective needs.

    High-end Manufacturing

Oil drilling tools, medical devices (surgical knife handles, implant substrates), good biocompatibility.

    Summary

0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al (13-8Mo), thanks to its ultra-high purity achieved through double vacuum smelting, exceptional balance of strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance, and stable heat-treatability, has become an irreplaceable key material in the aviation, nuclear, and military industries. Its creation embodies the pursuit of extreme material performance in high-end equipment and remains the performance benchmark among precipitation-hardening stainless steels. Choosing 13-8Mo means choosing the perfect balance of reliability and high performance!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the core components of 0Cr13Ni8Mo2Al (13-8Mo) stainless steel?

The chemical composition of 13-8Mo consists of Chromium (12.25%-13.25%), Nickel (7.5%-8.5%), Molybdenum (2.00%-2.50%), and Aluminum (0.90%-1.35%). This unique composition enables precipitation hardening and delivers high strength and toughness.

Q: How strong is 13-8Mo stainless steel after heat treatment?

Through heat treatments like H950, it can achieve a tensile strength above 1515 MPa and a yield strength above 1415 MPa, while maintaining an elongation of up to 10% and impact energy of 39 J.

Q: How is the corrosion resistance of 13-8Mo compared to 17-4PH?

In its aged state, 13-8Mo provides significantly better resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) than common precipitation hardening stainless steels like 17-4PH, making it highly reliable in seawater and salt spray environments.

Q: Why does 13-8Mo have such high fatigue strength?

The exceptional fatigue performance is due to double vacuum smelting, which reduces oxide inclusions and harmful gases to extremely low levels ([O]≤20ppm, [N]≤60ppm), resulting in high fatigue strength and low crack growth rates.

Q: Is 13-8Mo easy to machine and weld?

Yes. In its solid solution state (Condition A), it has a relatively low hardness (HRC≈32), which allows for easy machining, cold forming, and welding (TIG/MIG) before undergoing final low-temperature aging heat treatment.
