High strength, high wear resistance and corrosion resistance electroslag 9Cr18 round steel
Description
9Cr18 electroslag round steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium martensitic stainless steel that meets the national military standard GJB2294-95. It is smelted using the electroslag remelting (ESR) process. This process significantly improves the material's purity, structural uniformity, and overall mechanical properties, making it an ideal material for manufacturing high-load, high-corrosion, and high-wear-resistant components. Its chemical composition strictly meets standard requirements:

Material Advantages
1. High hardness and excellent wear resistance
After heat treatment (quenching followed by low-temperature tempering), the hardness can reach ≥55HRC while retaining high toughness. The high carbon content and chromium carbides (such as Cr₂₃C₆ ) are evenly distributed throughout the martensite matrix, imparting excellent wear resistance and making it suitable for high-friction operating conditions.
2. Excellent corrosion resistance
The chromium content is as high as 17%~19%, forming a dense oxide film on the surface, which makes it have good corrosion resistance in humid atmosphere, seawater and weak acidic media, which is significantly better than ordinary carbon steel and low alloy steel.
3. Enhancement effect of electroslag remelting process
High purity: Electroslag remelting effectively removes oxide inclusions (such as Al₂O₃ , SiO₂ ) and gas impurities , reduces defect sources, and improves material fatigue life.
Microstructure uniformity: The ESR process refines the carbide distribution, reduces eutectic carbide segregation, avoids stress concentration, and improves lateral mechanical properties and processing reliability.
Improved machinability: The clean and uniform structure reduces the tendency of cutting and sticking, making it easier to perform precision machining and surface treatment.
4. High strength and fatigue life
The tensile strength can reach ≥590 MPa, and the elongation ≥15% (annealed). After quenching and tempering, the strength is further increased. At the same time, the fatigue life of electroslag steel is significantly longer than that of conventionally smelted materials, making it suitable for components subjected to cyclic loads.
Application Areas
With its comprehensive performance, 9Cr18 electroslag round steel is widely used in high-end equipment manufacturing:
Military and aerospace: Conforms to GJB2294-95 standard and is used to manufacture corrosion-resistant load-bearing components such as bearings, shafts, and missile structural parts.
Mechanical manufacturing: high-load gears, pumps and valves, surgical instruments, knives and springs, etc.
Energy and Chemical Industry: Suitable for wear-resistant parts in seawater environment or corrosive media, such as ship pump shafts and chemical machinery seals.
Summarize
Electroslag 9Cr18 round steel, conforming to the GJB2294-95 standard, achieves comprehensive improvements in purity, microstructure uniformity, and mechanical properties through the electroslag remelting process. It combines high hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and a long fatigue life. Its reliability has been rigorously verified in the military, aerospace, and high-end machinery sectors, making it an ideal material for manufacturing high-performance, long-life critical components.
